Iraqi Cement State Co has warned that cheap and low-quality imports of cement are making it hard for it to sell its products and might even lead to the collapse of the industry without immediate state support, Azzaman has reported. The company s director-general, Nasser Idris did not say where the cement was imported from, but said that the imports were much cheaper than locally produced cement and of a lower quality. The country s cement consumption is estimated at nearly 18 million tonnes a year, but its 21 cement plants managed to produce only 12 million tonnes in 2012.
