The Qoros 3 sedan has become the first Chinese-developed car to score a maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, with results that make it 2013′s best performer to date.
The compact C-segment model achieved an overall score of 88 per cent, scoring 95 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupants, 77 per cent for pedestrians and 81 per cent for safety assist systems.
It scored maximum points in the side barrier test and for 18-month and three-year dummy protection and pedestrian leg protection.
The Qoros 3 sedan’s standard safety equipment includes front, passenger, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control and speed limitation assistance and ISOFIX child restraint anchorage points.
The first production car from Qoros, an equal joint venture partnership between Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation founded in 2007, the 3 sedan is produced in Changshu, China.
Unveiled at this year’s Geneva motor show, the Qoros 3 sedan is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, offered as a 93kW/155Nm naturally aspirated unit or with 115kW and 210Nm thanks to the addition of a turbocharger. Both engines are teamed with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission optional.
The Euro NCAP result comes as the brand prepares for the model’s upcoming European launch.
