International sandwich chain Subway is said to be preparing for a major rebrand in mid-2016.
The rebrand has not been officially confirmed by Subway but sources have indicated that its logo, uniforms and stores could all be changing.
Some analysts are saying that a rebrand is needed with changing consumer tastes and some recent controversies in the US. One of the chain’s spokesman, Jared Fogle, has been accused of engaging in sex with minors and receiving child pornography. Subway stores in the US also experienced backlash in 2014 when a chemical used to make yoga mats was also found in its breads.
Any move in a new direction would come just weeks after the Australian arm of the chain launched a large-scale marketing campaign which pitches Subway as fuel for an active lifestyle.
At the time of its launch, Subway International Marketing Director Dan Kohler said that the Australian campaign could be used in other countries if successful.
“The work being done in Australia feeds into similar work we are activating in other markets. We’re looking with keen interest to see the results in Australia and how these learnings could be implemented elsewhere,” Kohler said at the time.
