Freight rates for shipping coal from northern China's Qinhuangdao Port to the southern ports of Zhangjiagang, Shanghai and Guangzhou edged up slightly in the week to Wednesday, after an overall downward bias in the previous week, according to a weekly report released by the port Wednesday.
For vessels with the capacity to carry 20,000-30,000 mt, the freight rate from Qinhuangdao to Zhangjiagang rose by Yuan 0.70/mt week on week to an average of Yuan 33.30/mt ($5.34/mt), the data showed.
For vessels with 40,000-50,000 mt of capacity, the freight rate from Qinhuangdao to Shanghai rose by Yuan 0.30/mt week on week to an average of Yuan 26.3/mt.
The freight rate for 50,000-60,000 mt capacity vessels transporting coal from Qinhuangdao to Guangzhou edged up Yuan 0.20/mt week on week to Yuan 37.20/mt.
Meanwhile, coal stocks at Qinhuangdao Port stood at 6.76 million mt Wednesday, up from 6.62 million mt a week ago, port figures showed.
