India Has Planned to Implement Labeling of Genetically Modified Food From 2013

India has planned to implement labeling of genetically modified food from 2013.

Across 50 countries throughout the globe, there is either a total ban or restriction on genetically modified foods, though the US is mulling concrete legislations that mandate labeling on them.

Surveys conducted in the United States show that the vast majority of people would like to know if they are eating genetically modified ingredients.

BRIC countries like Russia, Brazil and China with stable economic conditions have implemented the labeling process for genetically modified organisms in food.

The move by India has reportedly urged the US authorities to move ahead with actually implementing the deal.

Indian authorities worked out a time-frame for making the regulations effective latest by 2013, in early June.
