The small Kansas town of Fredonia is bracing for the loss of its Lafarge cement plant, which is set to close next month. The plant opened in 1907 and has operated 24 hours a day ever since. Citizens say they re worried about literal losses, such as the fact that workers will lose their jobs and the company will no longer buy water from the city, but that the loss is also sentimental.
