Firefighters from across Wellington County rushed to Dickson Drive in Fergus to extinguish a fire that destroyed the main shop buildings at Vandermarel Trucking on Saturday morning.
Despite their efforts, none of the buildings could be saved. Luckily, no one was injured.
Mary Vandermarel, co-owner of the business says the news is overwhelming. Her husband, a truck driver, is on a run to Colorado.
“The next few days are going to be really, really hard and we are going to pull together and try to make it work,” she says.
Officials say it’s too early to determine the cause of the fire, but hope that recovered surveillance video will help them figure out how it happened.
“We were able to remove from the building all of the computer hard drives with important documentation so that the company can get back to business as quickly as possible,” Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton told CTV news.
The family-owned business has been part of the Fergus community for over 24 years.
