Chrysler Is Planning to Invest $198m in Its Mack Avenue I Engine Plant in Detroit

US-based automaker Chrysler is planning to invest $198m in its Mack Avenue I Engine Plant in Detroit to produce its 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine.

The new 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine will replace the 3.7-litre V6 engine manufactured at the Mack Avenue plant for powering the Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500.

Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson was quoted by The Detroit News as saying that the company will be working with the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan regarding potential economic development incentives to assist it in making the business case for the investment.

"Upon confirmation, this action, along with previous announcements about the Conner Avenue and Jefferson North Assembly Plants as well as the company's downtown presence, will continue to reaffirm our commitment to the revitalization of the city of Detroit,"Tinson said.

According to the carmaker, the investment follows its plan to shut down its Mack Avenue Engine II facility on 09 September 2012 and suspend 200 employees, who will be offered with new positions at the Mack Avenue Engine I and at other Chrysler plants.

Chrysler's Pentastar engine offers more power and better fuel economy compared to previous V6 engines.
