Hot Smoked Products Are Being Recalled for Clostridium Botulinum Risk by True Taste

US-based True Taste is recalling seafood products as they may have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum,a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death.

The products being recalled are vacuum packaged Hot Smoked Rainbow Trout,Hot Smoked Whitefish,Hot Smoked Herring,Hot Smoked Mackerel,Hot Smoked Salmon Steak,Cold Smoked Mackerel,and Cold Smoked Whitefish.

The products associated with the recall can be identified with the True Taste Label or the Lowell Foods Label.These have a white sticker applied to the package with date of packaging and best if used by date.

The recall was initiated after the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture,Trade and Consumer Protection noticed that the products did not meet the 3.5%minimum requirement for water phase salt.

The company has voluntarily halted production and the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)is monitoring the recall.

No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.Consumers who have purchased these products have been requested not to consume the products,but to return them for a full refund.
