In January this year, Turkey's steel scrap import volume increased by 28.76 percent year on year to 1.95 million metric tons, up 2.75 percent compared to the December, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of this import volume totaled $766.49 million, up 28.57 percent year on year and increasing by 6.35 percent month on month.
In January, Turkey imported 474,466 mt of steel scrap from the US, up 1.20 percent year on year and rising by 56.34 percent month on month. The US remained first among Turkey's major steel scrap import sources in the given month, ahead of Russia which imported 252,402 mt of steel scrap, up 48.15 percent year on year and increasing by 38.86 percent month on month.
