Japanese automobile components manufacture DENSO has developed a Cold Storage (CS) Evaporator to control the vehicle cabin temperature during an idle stop when stop/start technology is employed.
DENSO's new CS Evaporator will include a cold insulator, which will be located in the heat exchanging area will store the cold energy required to cool in-vehicle cabin air while the engine and air-conditioning cycle is off in the idle-stop state.
The company has deployed a closed case with inner fins and a cold insulation inside the CS evaporator in order to store cold energy quickly and discharge cooled air slowly when compared to a conventional evaporator.
DENSO Thermal Systems Business senior executive director Akio Shikamura said air-conditioning systems with its CS Evaporator can limit the increase in cabin temperature when the engine and air-conditioning are off during an idle stop.
"This helps maintain occupant comfort while also increasing the vehicle's fuel efficiency," Shikamura said.
The new evaporator was used in the Wagon R that was launched in Japan on 6 September 2012 by Suzuki Motor.
