Canada-based TC Transcontinental has acquired US flexible packaging supplier Multifilm Packaging for an undisclosed sum.
Based in Elgin of Illinois, Multifilm provides flexible packaging solutions for the food, beverage, and confectionery industries.
The company is specialized in providing piece-wraps and high-barrier laminates for the confectionery, snacks and dry foods markets.
With around 70 employees, Multifilm produces twist wraps, flow wraps, bag and pouch film, single web and laminate solutions for the confections, snack foods, dry foods, coffee, powders and nutrition products.
Multifilm is having advanced capabilities in cast film extrusion, metallization and demetallization, as well as aluminum foil printing.
Since 2008, the company has been managed by four owner-managers, and will remain with the acquired business to ensure continuity.
TC Transcontinental president and CEO François Olivier said: “This transaction allows us to enter new high-end confectionery packaging niches and to bolster our offering in this market.
“Multifilm expands our manufacturing capabilities, namely with aluminum foil printing and demetallization, thereby enabling us to leverage these sought-after processes within our North American packaging platform.”
Multifilm Packaging president Chris Rogers said: “We are inspired by the long-term growth vision and entrepreneurial spirit of its executives, and we are confident that, together, we will continue to help Multifilm thrive by building on its success, as we have always done.”

In 2016, the company made two additional acquisitions including Robbie Manufacturing and Flexstar Packaging.
