Ripple Glass, a glass recycling company in Kansas City, Mo., is donating more than 2,300 square feet of Owens Corning’s PINK fiberglass insulation to Habitat for Humanity of Phelps County.
The insulation was made from bottles and jars recycled at the Rolla Recycling Center, located at 2141 Old St. James Road.
In 2012, the City of Rolla collected more than 150 tons of glass, or 375,000 bottles and jars.
Ripple Glass donates insulation back to communities that recycle significant amounts of glass to thank residents for their commitment to glass recycling. This year, Boulevard Brewing Company and Grellner Sales and Service are generously providing transportation and storage of the insulation.
Owens Corning manufactures its PINK fiberglass insulation using recycled glass cullet made by Ripple Glass. Using the recycled glass to make new insulation saves millions of bottles from the landfill, reduces energy use and dramatically lowers air and water emissions.
“What an amazing opportunity to see the city’s recycling efforts come full circle back to our community!” said Bob Morrison, treasurer for Habitat for Humanity of Phelps County. “This donation will be used in new home construction. I am proud of our community and thankful for the donation.”
