The Brazilian Steelmakers Are Expecting Better Performance in 2013

Reportedly, the Brazilian steelmakers are expecting better performance in 2013 due to lower costs structures and competition against imports.

The favorable measure announced by the government includes reduction of industrial energy prices, better exchange rate and a hike import tariffs.

Local steel association, IABr estimates a 4% decline in steel production costs with an average 20% reduction in electricity tariffs announced by government.

Meanwhile, steel imports from January to October total amounted to 3.2 million tons, up by 3.7% year on year.

Overall Brazilian domestic market has foreseen optimistic outlook over the coming quarters.
