Surface Trade Increased 6.5% in December,The Department of Transportation Announced.

Surface trade among the United States,Canada and Mexico increased 6.5%in December,the Department of Transportation announced.

All trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners rose 6.4%to$90 billion,DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Feb.27 in its monthly report.

Freight carried by trucks,vessel and pipeline increased,and rail and air trade declined.Trucks carried 57.9%of the freight by value among the Nafta nations,BTS said.

Freight moved by rail,which was 14.9%of the total Nafta trade,declined 2.3%year-over-year,BTS said.

Truck imports to the United States from the two countries increased 8.6%to$25.3 billion,and exports grew 5.9%to$26.3 billion.
