Textile stores in Spain have closed the winter sales campaign with €3.6 billion, owing to discounts offered by manufacturers during January and February 2014, as per the the Business Association of Textile Trade and Accessories (ACOTEX) of Spain.
ACOTEX president Borja Oria said that sales of Spanish textiles during January and February grew by 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively, compared to the same months last year, reports Spanish news agency EFE.
According to the ACOTEX official, the sales of textile products during these two months were higher due to liberalization of sale initiated by manufacturers in the country and several discounts and rebates that were offered by traders during the period.
Although the figures are not extremely good, the positive trend in the sales observed during the winter sales campaign is expected to continue throughout the whole year, and increase domestic consumption, he added.
Earlier in January, ACOTEX had revealed its forecasts that winter sales of Spanish textiles would touch €3.6 billion, representing an average spending of €80 per buyer.
Winter sales of Spanish textiles currently account for 20 percent of the annual turnover of the Spanish textiles sector, according to ACOTEX.
