According to data released by the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA), the country’s heavy plate output totaled 726,000 tons in September, up by 16% from a month ago.
In January-September period, the country’s heavy plate production amounted to 6.59 million tons, falling by 16% year on year.
Industry source said that the weak demand for ship plates from the Korean shipbuilders have made the Korean plate producers including Posco, Dongkuk Steel Mill and Hyundai Steel to control production.
