Multivac New Zealand, part of the Multivac Group is set to begin exclusive distribution of Australia-based Plantic’s eco Plastic high barrier sustainable packaging materials in the New Zealand market.
Plantic eco Plastic, which has an oxygen transmission rate of less than one-tenth of 1%, creates a new class of high barrier packaging materials. The packaging can increase shelf life and improve product freshness.
Every 100t of eco Plastic used is the CO2 equivalent of planting 42,000 trees. The bio-based material, which contains up to 80% renewable content, uses up to 25% less energy compared to conventional polymers throughout the complete product lifecycle, and runs on Multivac standard thermoforming, vacuum forming and form-fill-seal systems.
Multivac New Zealand managing director Stephen Holmes said the move is part of the company's strategy to give its customers a comprehensive service.
"We will be showcasing the Plantic eco Plastic product running in our application center, as part of our formal facility opening in September," Holmes said.
Plantic's eco Plastic product range covers premade rigid trays through to rigid and flexible thermoformable roll stock. The materials serve as a drop-in replacement for a range of traditional plastics used in modified atmosphere and ultra high-barrier packaging and require no investment in new processing or packaging technology.
