Izhora Pipe Mill, a subsidiary of Russian steel producer Severstal, which specializes in large diameter pipe production using strip produced by CherMK (Severstal Russian Steel), has announced that it has shipped pipes for the construction of the Central Asia-China (CAC) international gas pipeline.
Since January this year, the Izhora Pipe Mill has supplied the pipeline in question with approximately 30,000 mt of 1,219 mm pipes with 17.5-mm wall thickness made of X80 high-strength steel with both internal and external coating.
The large-diameter pipes were made using rolled sheet produced by the Cherepovets Steel Mill at its Mill 5000 sheet-rolling facility. The products were made to comply with US standard API Spec 5L (level PSL 2). The API Spec 5L compliance certificate enables the Izhora Pipe Mill to deliver pipes for modern oil and gas projects.
The Central Asia-China (CAC) pipeline is a gas pipeline running from the Caspian Sea (Turkmenistan) via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to China. It links Central Asia's major natural gas deposits to China's gas transmission system. The pipeline spans over 7,000 km, including 188 km in Turkmenistan, 560 km in Uzbekistan, 1,300 km in Kazakhstan, and 5,000 km in China.
