Brazil's Iron Ore Export Volume Amounted to 30.69 Million Mt

Brazil's iron ore export volume amounted to 30.69 million mt in May this year, increasing by 24.25 percent compared to April and up 12.92 percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. Brazil's iron ore export value in May totaled $2.59 billion, increasing by 25.73 percent compared to the previous month and down 12.09 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, Brazil's iron ore export volume increased by 7.40 percent year on year to 127.19 million mt.

In May, Brazil's export volume of semi-finished products of iron and steel amounted to 389,755 mt, decreasing by 8.14 percent compared to the previous month and up 10.18 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, while these exports were valued at $202.67 million, decreasing by 8.82 percent compared to April and down 14.94 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first five months, Brazil's export volume of semi-finished products of iron and steel amounted to 2.08 million mt, down 16.48 percent year on year.

On the other hand, in May Brazil's flat steel exports totaled 52,534 metric tons, decreasing 52.41 percent from April and down 63.63 percent year on year. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $48.97 million, decreasing by 41.08 percent month on month and down 63.36 percent from the May 2013 level. In the first five month of this year, Brazil's flat steel exports decreased by 36.33 percent year on year to 547,316 million mt.
