SurePure has entered into an agreement with Turkey-based liquid egg company IPAY (Izmir Pastorize Yumurta) for the distribution of its photopurification technology.
As per the five-year deal, SurePure will receive approximately $300,000.
Established in 1980, IPAY is a part of the Kutas group of companies, and it offers whole egg, egg white and egg yolk in bulk to industrial customers, bag-in-box for the catering trade and smaller cartons for retail.
The company plans to install SurePure's photopurification system in its plant to improve shelf life and brand quality of its egg products.
SurePure Sales and Marketing vice president Steve Miller said, "Turkey represents a growth area for SurePure, and IPAY is one of the key components to that growth.
"We're excited to start this commercial journey with IPAY and see real potential for the application of our technology in this industry world-wide."
SurePure stated that the commercial application development comes after an academic research which confirmed the decontamination efficiency of UV-C against the main egg contaminant Salmonella enterica subsp.
Other studies found the UV-C treatments do not affect the rheological properties and the protein profile of liquid egg fractions and no adverse effects on consumer acceptance of egg products processed by UV-C, with overall appearance or taste similar to the controls processed thermally, it concluded.
