Healthcare products provider Covidien (COV) has launched new Barrx Channel RFA Endoscopic Catheter for treating Barrett’s esophagus and certain gastrointestinal bleeding disorders.
Barrett's esophagus is a precancerous condition of the esophageal lining.
The catheter is based on the company's proprietary technology that controls the amount of RF energy required to remove diseased tissue. In addition, the technology allows a 7.5mm wide electrode to pass through a 2.8mm diameter endoscope working channel.
Covidien GI Solutions vice president and general manager Vafa Jamali said that the company continues to offer patients and physicians a solution to address Barrett's esophagus.
"The newest addition to the Barrx portfolio is designed to simplify the procedure by delivering our proven RF technology through the working channel of the endoscope," Jamali added.
The new device, which is available in the US and Europe, also includes a transparent ablation electrode for better visualization and a rotatable shaft design for additional control and maneuverability.
