Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) has introduced a new twist bottle format and label designed for its Abbey Well Spring Water range.
Designed to be more environmentally friendly, the new light weight bottle format uses up to 32% less plastic than the previous bottle design.
The bottle features new label with the wording ‘Recycle Me’ on the outside of the bottle, encouraging consumer to recycle it after use.
The 100% recyclable bottles, which require less energy to make, transport and recycle, are being manufactured at CCEP's bottling facility in Morpeth, Northumberland.
In August, CCEP made $18m investment in the facility to install new technology as well as to increase capacity.
Coca-Cola European Partners operations director Jane Buckley Morpeth said: “This new innovation is a positive step towards our commitment of reducing the carbon footprint of the drink in your hand, and driving positive sustainable contribution to both the environment and society.”
CCEP plans to introduce the new bottles from December 2016 for Abbey Well Still 500ml, 750ml Sports Cap, 250ml Sports Cap and Sparkling 500ml.
WRAP resource management head Linda Crichton said: “This is another great innovation from Coke, reducing material usage whilst ensuring the bottle remains recyclable is really important for resource efficiency.”
The new bottle was designed as part of CCEP’s initiative to reduce the environmental impacts of its operations.
