According to the statistics provided by the Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (CEBID), in March this year Turkey's total steel pipe exports amounted to 183,903 metric tons, increasing by 17 percent both compared to the same month of the previous year and to February. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $156.5 million, rising 7.4 percent compared to March 2012 and up 11.8 percent month on month.
According to CEBID, the declining year-on-year trend observed in January and February this year switched to an uptrend in March, with steel pipe exports in the first quarter of the year totaling 463,516 mt, up by 4.35 percent on year-on-year basis. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $413 million, falling 1.5 percent compared to January-March 2012.
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey's biggest destinations for its steel pipe exports were Iraq, the US and Algeria. There was no significant improvement in demand for steel pipe in the European Union countries, while the increasing demand for steel pipe in Iraq and the increased shares of North African countries' in pipe imports from Turkey contributed to the increase in the country's steel pipe exports in the period in question.
