Turkey's Steel Exports Decreased by 8.3 Percent,Imports Decreased by 10 Percent

In the January-April period this year, year on year to 6.36 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $5.30 billion, down 5.3 percent, both on year on year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given period, Turkey's steel pipe exports totaled 599,000 mt, up 1.7 percent, while long steel exports increased by 3.9 percent to 3.98 million mt and flat steel exports decreased by 20.1 percent to 801,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the first four months of the current year, Turkey's slab exports surged to 291,000 mt, while no slab exports were recorded from Turkey in the same period of 2013.

In the first four months of the current year, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 10 percent to 4.37 million mt, while the value of these imports fell 6.6 percent to $3.90 billion, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period, Turkey's billet imports totaled 889,000 mt, down 10.4 percent, and slab imports decreased by 21.4 percent to 531,000 mt, while flat steel imports totaled 2.18 million mt, down 11.2 percent, long steel imports amounted to 496,000 million mt, up 5.5 percent, and steel pipe imports increased by 1.2 percent to 146,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.

In the period under review, Turkey's steel export value exceeded its steel import volume by 36 percent, up two percentage points compared to the same period last year.
