The bedding industry saw only modest growth last year, with units increasing 1.2% and the dollar value of wholesale bedding shipments increasing 2.4%, according to the industry’s official report of 2013 results.
The 2013 Mattress Industry Report of Sales and Trends, just issued by the International Sleep Products Assn., says that the industry’s average unit price increased by 1.2%.
As part of ISPA’s continuing effort to improve its statistical products to reflect changing market and product trends, this year’s report includes for the first time U.S. sales data for adjustable foundations, ISPA officials noted.
The report also includes comprehensive current and historical data on the mattress industry’s performance.
“The 2013 Annual Report has the most comprehensive and accurate sales information available for the mattress industry. This report helps ISPA members, mattress retailers and those in the financial sector track key business trends,” said ISPA President Ryan Trainer. “The report offers valuable information necessary to understand the mattress industry and make important commercial and investment decisions.”
The 2013 report includes a 20-year history of wholesale units, dollars and average unit prices for mattresses and foundations sold in the United States; regional sales data breakouts; mattress-size trends; price point analyses; import/export data; household consumption analyses; breakouts for specialty bedding (non-innerspring mattresses); contract sales; data on econometric factors that influence the industry; commentary on industry issues and a world mattress report prepared by the Centre of Industrial Studies. The report also includes information retailers can use to help their stores remain competitive in today’s dynamic and challenging global marketplace, ISPA officials said.
The report is one part of ISPA’s statistical program. ISPA’s other statistical reports include the Bedding Barometer, a monthly report on mattress and foundation shipments, and the Mattress Industry Forecast, a semi-annual forecast of industry shipments.
