The exports of apparel from Turkey increased by 8.1 percent to US$ 11.457 billion during the first eight months of the current year, compared to exports of US$ 10.595 billion made during the corresponding period of last year, according to the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB).
Sub-segment wise, knitted apparel and accessories accounted for US$ 6.082 billion worth of exports, followed by woven clothing and accessories with US$ 3.860 billion, and home textiles with US$ 1.407 billion, Haber7 reported citing ITKIB data.
Germany imported US$ 2.495 billion worth of Turkish garments, accounting for 21.8 percent of the total clothing exports made by Turkey during January-August 2013 period.
The UK, Spain, France and the Netherlands were the other main destinations for Turkish clothing during the period under review.
Seven of the top 10 importers of Turkish apparel were EU countries, which together accounted for US$ 7.065 billion worth of Turkish apparel exports during the eight-month period.
Garment exports from Turkey to the EU countries increased by 6 percent year-on-year to US$ 8.538 billion, accounting for 75 percent of total Turkish clothing exports during the period.
In August 2013, apparel exports from Turkey increased by 8.4 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.401 billion, according to the data.
