Novozymes achieved a score of 94, placing it at  No 5 in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) Nordic Index and outperforming other Danish companies.

"It's excellent recognition to have from a large group of important investors. It clearly signals that long-term and solid sustainability targets are important and will make a difference to companies in building long-term resilience in their business," says Flemming Funch, Vice President for Quality, Environment and Safety at Novozymes.

The CDP Index has pioneered a global and certified system that collects information on corporate behavior in the areas of climate change and water scarcity. The CDP acts on behalf of market forces, including shareholders and purchasing corporations, and 655 investors with assets of $78 trillion have evaluated companies on their ability to communicate reduction of carbon emissions.

"We tell our customers that our technology can reduce their CO2 emissions, and last year our biotechnological solutions saved 45 million tons of CO2 – about three-quarters of Denmark's total annual CO2 emissions. We achieved this together with our customers, by applying our solutions in their products and processes."

"We also invested heavily to reduce the carbon footprint from our own production. The ability to document and communicate the importance of sustainability is essential in our collaboration with our customers. This high ranking in CDP Nordic helps to prove our case," Flemming Funch says.

Novozymes is participating in the CDP for the fifth consecutive year, climbing to No 5 from No 10 in 2011.

Novozymes' achievement is documented in a thorough report compiled by CDP. Novozymes also holds a gold rating in SAM Sustainability Yearbook, and taken together the two provide widely acclaimed third-party recognition of the professionalism with which the company approaches its sustainability goals.

"The high rankings in the CDP Index and SAM Sustainability Yearbook enhance our credibility with business partners, who appreciate that having our own house in order is part of our service – and something that we are ready to share with them," Flemming Funch concludes.
