Most of us could do with moving a bit more at work. Standing desks are all well and good, but The Level promises to change our work lives for the better.
The aim is to keep you active while you work, stimulating blood flow. This should not only help you physically, by keeping deep vein thrombosis at bay, but should also help relieve depression and aid your creative thinking.
It's basically a board you stand on that shifts position, forcing you to react to stay upright using a range of motion similar to walking. The company behind it claims that third-party tests reported a 15 per cent increase in heart rate versus sitting.
You don't need a standing desk to use it either. While you'll get the most benefit by using it with a standing desk, you can also use it while on the phone or in meetings, or at home while cooking.

We've seen similar approaches before, but this is decidedly more low-fi than a treadmill desk. We can't say what it would be like to use – wouldn't it be annoying, trying not to fall flat on your face? – but it's an admirable effort to help improve the mental and physical health of desk jockeys all over the world.
It's passed its funding goal on Indiegogo, and still has 44 days to go. It will cost from $269 (£177) and will start shipping in March.
