Epistar, the largest Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker, on September 9 reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.971 billion (US$65.7 million) for August, an increase on month of 2.85% and 0.39% on year, and revenues of NT$14.280 billion for the January-August period, a rise on year of 4.41%.
Consolidated revenues for the third quarter are expected to remain unchanged or slightly slip on quarter and those for the fourth quarter will likely drop sequentially, company chairman Lee Biing-jye said.
Currently, Epistar has 45-50% of its consolidated revenues coming from LED chips used in backlight units and 25-30% from those used in LED lighting. For the time being, the increase in demand for LED lighting is not sufficient to offset a decrease in demand for LED backlighting, market analysts pointed out.
