Japanese carmaker Toyota along with its five subsidiaries is planning to invest about IDR13trillion ($1.34bn) in Indonesia over the next five years to expand its capacity in Southeast Asia.
The five Toyota group's subsidiaries include Daihatsu Motor, Toyota Auto Body, Aisin Seiki, Denso and Toyota Tsusho.
Toyota's Indonesian unit, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), will invest about $31m into its first Karawang facility in Jakarta to increase the annual production capacity from 110,000 to 130,000 units by 2013.
The investment will also be used to revamp the production capacity of second Karawang facility to 120,000 units per year by early 2014 from 70,000 units following its commencement of initial operations by March 2013.
Toyota aims to put the combined output from both the plants at 250,000 units per year by 2014.
The carmaker is also planning to build a new engine manufacturing facility at Karawang.
As part of the overall plans, Toyota Auto Body is to develop new vehicle models starting December 2012, while Denso plans its third factory to manufacture engine control units in Bekasi, West Java.
Daihatsu Motor is set to commence construction of its second test track and design centre at one of the Karawang plants by end 2012.
