According to data released by the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD), Turkey’s steel imports totaled 6 million tons in the first five months of this year, soaring by 30.4% year on year.
Meanwhile, the country’s import values generated by steel totaled US$5.3 billion in January-May, rising by 14.9% year on year.
In the given period of time, the country’s imports of billets totaled 1.3 million tons, soaring by 37.2%; those of slabs were at 796,000 tons, jumping by 389% and those of flat rolled steel were at 3 million tons, increasing by 13.3% and those of long products were at 593,000 tons, up by 2.8%, all compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.
