Fall River Has Implemented The ActiveSeam 502?

Fall River, Mass.-based sewing solutions provider Merrow Sewing Machine Co. has implemented the ActiveSeam 502? Production Program to complement its ActiveSeam? stitch — a new technical and distinctive stitch that can be used instead of standard stitches in apparel manufacturing. Introduced last year, ActiveSeam stitch was a collaboration between Merrow, Mount Holly, N.C.-based thread manufacturer American & Efird LLC and Germany-based needle manufacturer Groz-Beckert KG. Merrow reports the branded and customizable stitch has captured the attention of designers and apparel brands, and that the production program and Stitch Lab will help speed up development of new custom-engineered stitches and growth of the product in a cost-effective manner.

According to the company, brands producing apparel using an ActiveSeam license are supplied with the necessary machinery at no additional cost. Merrow will configure and send machines to customers for specific product cycles, which can then be returned and retooled for the next production run.

Merrow Stitch Lab? is the collaborative process undertaken by the company and its customers to generate a stitch that meets the customer's needs, taking into account the fabric type, thread selection and final product characteristics such as comfort, strength and stretch. The custom-designed seams give brands a way to differentiate their products in the marketplace, and Merrow's new program supports the brand throughout the design and production process.
