Softwood Lumber Exports Were Raised by 26%

The Finnish Forest Industries Federation attributes the slight reduction in the domestic sawmilling industry’s lumber output in the first quarter of 2012 of roughly 2% to 2.3m m³ to comparatively difficult sales conditions on the majority of softwood lumber markets and weather-related obstructions. At the same time, softwood lumber exports were raised by 26% to just over 1m m³, though the exports in the first quarter of 2011 were heavily influenced by the political crisis in North Africa, which considerably restricts comparability. Finland’s pulp output remained more or less on par with last year at 1.7m t whereas paper and board output fell by 12% to 2.6m t. Finnish pulp exports rose from January to the end of March by 28% against the same period of 2011 to 720, 000 t. Source: euwid-wood-products
