Coca-Cola Hellenic Has Acquired a Minority Stake in Filia Environmental Industries

Coca-Cola Hellenic, the bottler of Coca-Cola products, has acquired a minority stake in Filia Environmental Industries, which opened a new PET recycling plant in Filiates of Thesprotia, Greece.

The investment is said to be in line with Coca-Cola Hellenic's environmental strategy of using recycled raw materials in its production process.

The new facility will process about 12,000t of used PET bottles annually and recycle them to produce 100% recycled plastic flake. The flake will be used for a range of products such as plastic film, geotextiles, plastic fibers and pallets.

Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon, Greece public affairs and communications manager Vassilis Lollas said the investment reflects the company's commitment to Greece and the local communities in which it operates.

"In addition, this investment demonstrates our commitment in protecting and preserving the environment," Lollas said.

According to Coca-Cola Hellenic, the bottles can be reused in the production process leading to various important environmental benefits.

In 2007, the company invested in a PET bottle-to-bottle recycling facility in Austria which process 20,000t of used PET per annum.
