For The Year 2014, The German Clothing Sales Increased by 3.75 Percent Year-on-Year

For the year 2014, the German clothing industry is expecting positive development, and clothing sales are estimated to increase by 3.75 percent year-on-year, said Gerd Oliver Seidensticker, president of the German Fashion Association (GermanFashion).

According to a statement issued by GermanFashion, Mr. Seidensticker said that the economic situation of the German apparel industry showed significant improvement in the year 2013, and the year 2014 shows promise.

The German clothing sector closed 2013 with a turnover of € 12 billion, whereas the average rise in sales was 2.4 percent, which is a significant increase compared to the year 2012, he added.

According to the GermanFashion president, clothing exports from the country continued to develop significantly in 2013, and the positive trend is expected to persist during 2014 also.

Analysts from GermanFashion conducted a survey to determine the growth of enterprises operating in the clothing sector, and all the firms that were surveyed expressed that 2013 was a positive year in terms of exports, he added.

Mr. Seidensticker said that as per the survey, Germany exported apparel products to Austria, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Italy, the UK and Spain during 2013.

In terms of imports, China was the main supplier of apparel goods to Germany in the year 2013, followed by Bangladesh which overtook Turkey by becoming the second highest supplier of clothing to the country during the year, he added.

The GermanFashion official explained that during 2013, Germany imported clothing from other countries such as the Netherlands, India, Italy, Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Indonesia.
