UK pump hire specialist Sykes Pumps provided 42 pumps as well as additional ancillary equipment through its North American distributor Ameripumps to help with the clear-up operation in New York, USA following Hurricane Sandy.
The pumps were required to dewater the flooded subway in Midtown.
To ensure that the pumps are properly maintained and function to maximum capacity, Sykes Pumps supplied technicians at no charge to assist in the setup and training. Nigel Gill, operations support director, Andrews Sykes, said: "Sykes Pumps has assisted with other disaster clean-up operations in the past - particularly floods along the Mississippi river and West Virginia - so we are fairly au fait with the protocol in these slightly unusual and challenging situations. While the urgency and severity of emergencies such as these cannot be overstated, the camaraderie amongst the pump industry and the specialists working on site should be commended."
