The Taiwanese Steel Mills Have Hiked Rebar Prices in Order to Reflect Higher Scrap Prices

Recently, the Taiwanese steel mills have hiked rebar prices in order to reflect higher scrap prices. It’s said that an electric furnace steel mill in northern Taiwan increased its rebar prices to NT$18,700/ton. At the same time, a mill in middle Taiwan hiked its rebar prices to NT$18,700/ton after receiving 10,000 tons of rebar orders with prices of NT$18,400/ton. It’s known that the international scrap prices have surged after the New Year holiday. This week, the mainstream quotes of the US HMS 80:20 (1&2) to Taiwan have increased to US$392/ton C&F. It’s estimated that the actual transaction prices would be at US$390/ton C&F, rising by US$15~US$20/ton from the prices before the holiday.
