IC design house Weltrend Semiconductor is expected to see its third-quarter revenues climb to the highest quarterly level for 2013, thanks to growing shipments of its NFC phone chips and LED driver ICs, according to market sources.
Monthly revenues at Weltrend during the third quarter are set to register sequential growth, said the sources.
Weltrend's SDIO (secure digital input output) encryption ICs for use in NFC-capable handsets have received verification from China-based clients such as China UnionPay, a banking association in the country, the sources indicated. The product line will play a key growth driver for Weltrend's revenues in the second half of 2013, the sources said.
Meanwhile, shipments of Weltrend's LED driver ICs are set to ramp up in the second half of 2013, the sources noted. Demand for LED lighting products will rise at a fast pace as prices for LED light bulbs reach a sweet spot, the sources said.
Weltrend has announced consolidated revenues for the second quarter of 2013 increased 17% sequentially to NT$459 million (US$15.3 million), and sales for July grew 4.75% on month to NT$158 million.
