Japanese carmaker Nissan is planning to commence production of new 2013 Sentra compact car at its Canton Vehicle Assembly facility in Mississippi, US from the fourth quarter of 2012.
According to the carmaker, it will hire additional 1,000 employees, further raising the plant's workforce to 4,500, which will allow it to produce Frontier pickups and Xterra SUVs, along with the new Sentra.
Nissan will also continue the production of the new Sentra model at its Aguascalientes plant in Mexico.
Nissan has invested over $2bn at its 3.5-million square feet Canton Assembly Plant since 2003, which currently manufactures 2013 Nissan Altima, Armada SUV, Titan pickup and NV commercial vans.
The carmaker's investment is aimed at producing 85% autos it sells in North America and South America regions at its facilities in those regions by 2015.
