Gillard Will Put Use of ERP Systems Under 2013 Budget Papers Reveal

The Gillard government will put its use of enterprise resource planning systems under the microscope, 2013 budget papers reveal.

The government will provide $2.8 million over two years to investigate the costs and benefits of rationalising the number and type of ERP systems used in the public sector.

The work will be undertaken by the Department of Finance.

ERP suppliers such as SAP and Oracle offer solutions for finance, human resource management, accounting and customer relationship management.

Meanwhile, more than $9m will be provided over four years to implement a whole-of-government, web-based electronic grants advertising, application and reporting system.

The system will "interface with agency grants management and payments systems to provide for the transfer of application information to, and reporting information from, agency systems", according to the papers.

The platform will be the "central interface" for the non-government sector with the government on grants, it said.
