Indian fashion and textile industry leaders converged in Mumbai on March 20 to celebrate cotton apparel at Cotton Council International’s (CCI) “COTTONSCAPE” event at the 2013 India Fashion Forum (IFF). “COTTONSCAPE” attendees viewed a presentation on trends driving the Indian apparel market, a discussion panel and a cotton fashion show. IFF provides a premier platform for India’s brands, retailers, manufacturers and exporters to exhibit their products and talk about issues affecting the domestic and international apparel industries.
“With India poised to become the third largest apparel market in the world by 2020, understanding key trends and consumer expectations will be vital for both new entrants and established players, “said Agnieszka Fijol, Head of Consumer Marketing in India for CCI. “Cotton has always played an integral role in the Indian economy, and adapting to consumer trends ensures a prosperous future for cotton apparel and home textile products.”
CCI – active in the Indian apparel industry for more than 15 years – monitored the apparel shopping habits of Indian consumers with Cotton Incorporated and shared the latest research at ‘COTTONSCAPE.’ Cotton Incorporated gave a presentation highlighting leading trends in consumer buying behavior, the most lucrative consumer and product segments, and what Indian shoppers look for when buying apparel.
A subsequent panel of highly respected names in the fashion and textile industries discussed challenges in the fast-moving Indian apparel market. The panel examined how to add value to apparel, how they plan to compete with new retail trends such as “fast fashion”and predictions for the latest fabric trends.
“COTTONSCAPE” concluded with a fashion show highlighting the latest cotton trends from premier clothing brands Provogue, Jack&Jones and Lee Cooper. Denim took center stage with all three labels. Jack & Jones started the fashion show with a men’s collection of jeans in different washes and styles paired with graphic tees. The look defined the brand’s casual attitude and commitment to comfortable style.
Always on the cutting edge of urban fashion, Lee Cooper paired classic denims with shirts in summer’s hottest pastels and coupled graphic tees with short and long sleeve shirts for a stylish layered look. Jersey tops in floral prints with denim shorts and miniskirts dominated the women’s looks.
Provogue closed the evening with a dynamic show that included bright checks paired with classic jeans, casual trousers in bottle green and brown, and polo shirts in stripes and vibrant colors. They also showed denim dresses in a variety of washes and subtle embroidery as well as summery cotton floral dresses, tunics and denim shorts.
