Charles Hendry today made a speech to the Business School at the University of Edinburgh.In it he stated that the security of UK energy is being challenged by:
Declining domestic production,making us vulnerable to energy fluctuations.Rising fossil fuel prices as global demand rises;Existing power station closures;and Investments in greenhouse gas reductions.
Mr Hendry said:"To meet these challenges investment alone is not enough,but changing our behaviour towards the usage of energy will be at least as important."
He cited smart meters as an important example of this,saying the government will be rolling them out to every UK home by 2020.
