Oriental Mindoro Will Be Enjoying The Opportunity of Using Free Compact Fluorescent Lamps

By the end of this month, some 10,000 household electricity consumers in the first district of Oriental Mindoro will be enjoying the opportunity of using free compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).

The office of Oriental Mindoro Congressman Rodolfo G. Valencia reported the 10,000 CFLs allocated to them by the Department of Energy (DOE) are now nearing 100 percent distribution.

According to Valencia's chief-of-staff Nico Valencia, the said energy-efficient and saver lamps are now equally distributed to constituents of the province's first district which includes this city and the municipalities of Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, Naujan, Victoria, Pola, and Socorro.

Nico Valencia said that through K4 (Kinabukasan, Kalikasan, Kaunlaran at Kabuhayan) Council, which he leads as president, the CFLs have been distributed among the said district's constituents on a first-come first-served basis. While it is on the said basis, the K4 and the congressional district staff, however, brought the lamps directly to beneficiaries per barangay. They required those who availed to present their most recent electricity bill in order to get free CFLs.

The distribution of CFLs is a national project of DOE under the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP), or the national residential lighting program, aimed to lessen the electricity consumption of the public by shifting the use of incandescent bulbs into compact fluorescent lamps.

By using CFLs, the electricity consumption of consumers in the whole country or all households will be lessened and the Philippines will become one of the CFL compliant countries.
