A growing surplus has arisen in supply on Germany’s sawmill residues markets during the course of December and at the beginning of the new year. This development initially led to sometimes marked cuts in prices for sawdust in some regions and also had an increasingly negative effect on the marketing opportunities and obtainable prices for MDF/pulp woodchips as January progressed. The evidently less pronounced stoppages by the sawmilling industry at the turn of the year and the earlier resumption of cutting at the start of the year are being quoted as the causes for this development on the supply side of the market.
