Turkish Crude Steel Output in 2014 Is Expected to Increase by Eight Percent

The Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD) has said that the steel industry performance in 2014 will be dependent on the industry's competitiveness, the demand trend in the domestic market, the recovery in export markets, mainly in neighboring countries, and protective measures imposed on Turkish products.

The TCUD stated that Turkey's crude steel output in 2014 is expected to increase by eight percent to 38 million mt, while Turkey's steel exports, which are estimated to have decreased by six percent to 19 million mt in 2013, are expected to reach 20.5 million mt in 2014, up eight percent, all year on year.

After increasing to 31 million mt in 2013 with a nine percent annual growth rate - which is considered to be quite high compared to countries worldwide, Turkey's crude steel consumption is forecast to increase by six percent to 33 million mt in 2014.
