Surya Foods Pushes New Product in UK

Surya Foods has collaborated with Ecuadorian natural gourmet snack company Samai to launch plantain crisps, a natural alternative to potato crisps, in the UK.

Samai's plantain crisps, which are made using natural ingredients, are already available at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, independent stores and multiplexes.

Surya Foods said noted that the gourmet snacks are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium. They are also gluten and lactose free, nut free, and contain no added sugar and no MSG ingredients.

The plantain used in the crisps are hand harvested from small farms and groves outside the protected rainforest area in Ecuador, and are processed fresh and then seasoned with natural flavorings such as pacific sea salt, sweet chipotle, jungle chilli and garlic.

Surya Foods director Harry Dulai said that Samai is committed to collaborate closely with its farmers to provide technical assistance to ensure quality and yield of their crops, and then pay them a stable and fair price throughout the year.

"Their environmental ethos means that peelings also go back to the plantations to be used as natural fertiliser and animal feed; and plantain chips too small to be used are returned to the farms to be used as animal feed," Dulai added.

Samai's plantain crisps have an RSP of 79p for a 75g pack.

Surya Foods is involved in introducing products from around the world and specializes in Afro-Caribbean, Asian, Oriental, Kosher, Polish and Halal foods
