It marks the second time Gibson has won the tournament, having been named US champ back in 1994.
David Gibson of Spartanburg, South Carolina, has been crowned the 2016 North American Scrabble Championby the North American Scrabble Players Association.
Gibson outscored more than 400 players to win the Championship trophy and a cash prize of $10,000. This was the second time Gibson has won the title as he previously won in 1994.
Held at the Grand Wayne Convention Center, the final saw Gibson defeat Dr. Ian Weinstein by more than 26 points thanks to words including Drearies, Serrano, Orcinols and Spelter.
