US-based chemical company DuPont has opened a new probiotic blending and packaging facility in China, marking the company's first step in packaging probiotics into ready-to-market formats.
The new facility will allow the company to offer its customers improved speed to market, quality and flexibility. It will allow customers to source ready-to-market probiotic formulations consisting of Danisco HOWARU premium and FloraFIT custom probiotic brands.
The investment is part of the company's global multi-year capacity expansion programme for cultures and probiotics in the US, Europe and now in China.
DuPont purchased a food processing plant in north of Beijing in 2011 and converted it into a new edge probiotic blending and packaging site to cater to the dietary supplement and food and beverage customers globally and specifically in China and the Asia Pacific region.
DuPont Nutrition & Health's Health and Protection vice-president Fabienne Saadane-Oaks said that this expansion allows the company to custom-blend and package probiotic products for its customers.
DuPont Greater China president Tony Su said: "This expansion is a further reinforcement of DuPont's long-standing commitment to China, our customers and consumers."
Probiotic cultures will be sourced from DuPont's North American and European sites. The new facility in China will custom blend the ingredients to meet the requirements of local customers.
According to the company, China is a significant market for its YO-MIX dairy cultures from the DuPont Danisco range.
DuPont operates eight facilities in China that offer food ingredients ranging from emulsifiers, hydrocolloids, enzymes and sweetener ingredients to food protection ingredients, soy protein, lecithin and fiber, and molecular diagnostic solutions.
