Councils Have Voted in Favour of Planning Applications Submitted by Solarcentury

Councils in both Norfolk and Suffolk have voted in favour of planning applications submitted by Solarcentury for the development of 4 solar parks.

The planning applications across 4 sites have a total capacity of 50 MW and will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 14,000 homes.

Breckland Council in Norfolk voted yesterday on 3 sites, totaling 38 MW. They are the 14.8 MW Hardingham Solar Park near Wymondham, the 11.5 MW Lexham Solar Park near Litcham and the 11.5 MW Fontaine Solar Park near Narborough.

The 3 Solar Parks will prevent an estimated 435,000 tonnes of CO2 entering the atmosphere during the lifetime of the installations.

In Suffolk, Waveney Council also voted in favour of Solarcentury’s application for a 12.3 MW Chediston Solar Park near Halesworth. This will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 3,500 homes.

Frans van den Heuvel, CEO, Solarcentury said:

“When the right sites are selected, solar is a very attractive technology”

In addition to the development of these sites, Solarcentury plans to design, build, operate and maintain the 4 sites.

Solarcentury sites are selected for their minimal visual impact and proximity of grid connection.

Solar can be scaled quickly and according to a yougov survey, it is the most popular clean technology with the UK public.
